Big announcement coming tomorrow!

Horticulture students recently planted apple trees on campus. The project was completed in collaboration with the Leaf & Petal Garden Club. The orchard was established to honor the memory of Gregg Shipston, former culinary arts instructor at LCSD Career Center. The apple trees were chosen as a fitting tribute to his career as a chef and teacher. A plaque with the following inscription was placed in the orchard:
"With Every Deed You Are Sowing Seed,
Though The Harvest You May Not See"
- Remembering

Firefighting students had a great first day at SkillsUSA too!

Day 1 of the SkillsUSA competition!

Mrs. Davis', Family and Consumer Science students began one of their favorite units this week...food and nutrition! Students spent the week discussing wellness and the components of "My Plate". As a class, they chose what they wanted to cook for lunch and the overwhelming response was quesadillas! On last Friday, they made homemade cheese quesadillas, pico de gallo, and guacamole.
Many students had never had guacamole made from fresh avocados. They were pleasantly surprised and mentioned that they would have never tasted something like that on their own Way to go students!!

Our students and teachers left today for the SkillsUSA competition in Greenville! Safe travels and good luck!

Last week Mrs. Lail, the LCSD Career Center Work-Based Learning Coordinator, visited Mrs. Wheeler's Accounting 2 class to finish up the work-based learning skills. Mrs. Lail spoke with the students about interview skills. The students were able to participate in mock interviews. The students shared that the interviews really prepared them for the real-world experience in order to be career ready. Great job Mrs. Lail and Accounting 2 students!

Quick update on the '57 Cadillac....it is primed and waiting on paint! Stay tuned!

Mrs. George-Miller's Fundamentals of Computing would like to welcome SGT Carl Long, Recruiting & Retention NCO. SGT Long spoke with students about a variety of relevant life choices... Students were asked what they want to do when they graduate from high school, what perks they would want from a job/career and what perks do they have at their current job(s). Students were given information on different ways to pay for college, different types of scholarships, budgeting money, cost of living and requirements to join the National Guard. Students played Jenga as a way to introduce themselves and to talk about what they wanted to do after graduation. The students enjoyed the speaker and were actively engaged in the presentation.
