The library staff and district art therapist Liz Bell put together a beautiful, expressive lesson for our academic scholars. Mrs. Alston shared the story Black Is a Rainbow Color, and Mrs. Bell afforded scholars the opportunity to create a visual fashioned from two powerful lines from the book - "Black is a rhythm./Black is the blues."

During its gathering this morning, the LHS Library Advisory Board spread positive affirmations and bestowed words of encouragement. May we all follow their example by extending a hand, speaking a kind word, and giving a smile to someone who may need encouragement.

Today, librarian Sherri Alston shared Gregory, the Terrible Eater with our academic scholars. This animated text lent itself nicely to an integrated healthy eating and movement lesson. The scholars compared nutrition information and searched for hidden, unhealthy ingredients on product labels. They had a great time selecting new books and 'moving and shaking' to Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now".

The LHS library staff and student-led Library Advisory Board created a red-carpet ready, comprehensive Black History display. Thank you, Louie Prete, for organizing our book carts! In addition, the library staff is offering a plethora of Black History-related activities this month. We encourage you to stop by the LHS or your local public library and check out some fantastic Black History month reads!

On Friday, our district's high school scholars had an informative, immersive experience at the Lancaster Native American Cultural Center. The field excursion served as a culminating activity for our district Read-In. The scholars and their librarians read Warrior Girl Unearthed and delved into topics such as repatriation of Indigenous ancestors and artifacts, MMIW, cultural identity and heritage, and systematic injustice.
